Care instructions

Your Milk Gems is a personalized piece of jewelry and a keepsake to mark a special moment and celebrate life.

In the same way that you cherish your memories, relationships and loved ones, it is important to take care of your Milk Gems jewelry. By carefully caring for and cleaning your Milk Gems, they will last for years and you will continue to enjoy your keepsake.

Hints and tricks

Always take off your jewelry before going to bed. Your jewelry should be the last item you put on in the morning and the first item you take off before going to bed.

Always avoid water, including washing dishes, (a lot of) sweat, swimming pools and jacuzzis, when wearing your jewelry. Also avoid handgel, lotions, perfume or cleaning products.

Because the jewelry is unique and special, it is important to store your jewelry separately to prevent scratches.

When you order a DNA piece of jewelry (made with breastmilk, ashes or a lock of hair), you will receive a care card that is specifically written for this type of jewelry.

Metal

  • Preferably store your jewelry in a box or bag with a soft lining, so that they do not rub against each other and scratch.
  • Avoid direct exposure to chemicals present in perfume, hairspray, makeup, nail polish remover, body oils, sunscreen and deodorant
  • Avoid very humid environments and high temperatures
  • Carefully clean your jewelry occasionally with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to maintain its shine
  • Over time, sterling silver will naturally darken (oxidize) from contact with oxygen, this is not a fault of the metal and can usually be removed with careful cleaning
  • Although sterling silver is strong, it can be scratch-prone if not handled with care
  • Your 14K gold jewelry that is not plated can be kept in the box it arrives in, or else it should be stored in a safe, dry place when not being worn
  • Due to the nature of the soft and malleable gold metal type, you should handle your gold jewelry with care to avoid scratches

Gemstones and pearls

We are committed to sourcing our gemstones in a responsible and moral manner.

  • Avoid direct exposure to chemicals present in perfume, hairspray, makeup, nail polish remover, body oils, suntan lotion and deodorant
  • When storing your gemstone jewelry, make sure they don't bump or rub against each other
  • Gently clean your gemstone and its setting with a soft cloth to restore its shine

Cord and leather

A selection of our jewelry is made of durable and colourfast cord or leather, combined with your favorite hand-engraved charm.

  • Jewelry with cord or leather can be worn at all times, but wearing it in the shower and regular contact with water can significantly shorten their life.
